Supporting you, your way!
Whether a teenager or a small child, child counselling can be incredibly supportive for children and their families, when facing difficulties in their lives.
Perhaps you have noticed that your child experiences symptoms of phobias or anxiety or possibly depressive symptoms. May be you are worried that your child has difficulty with friendships, is disruptive in school or is possibly depressed.
Child counselling can help.
Child counseling provides an environment for the child to safely explore, express and resolve areas of distress in their lives.
Who Can Benefit from Children & Young People Counselling?
Child counseling is appropriate for small children up to approximately 10 year olds. We regularly support children that are struggling with issues related to:
• friends
• seperation anxiety
• school transition
• bullying
• illness
• blended families
• death
• learning difficulties
• mental illness
• separated families
• addiction in the family
• family financial stress
• and sadly abuse
In these situations, not knowing how to make sense of what is happening in their worlds, young children can become highly distressed, often feeling like they are at fault. Even though teens are more able to understand these sorts of events, they too can become overwhelmed with conflicting emotions, and feel responsible. In addition, for teens, common reasons for seeking counselling can be around bullying, peer pressure and feeling like they fail to fit in, which can lead to depressive symptoms & suicidal ideation.
– What you will Experience at –
Art-N-Soul Therapy
Children with both natural life challenges, or delayed development & addition needs, may not have the language skills to express themselves, but they still have a voice. Putting their feelings into a poem, song or painting gives children a safe outlet for negative emotions through an enjoyable activity, which accelerates the healing and growth process.
More importantly for some, Expressive art therapy allows children to express themselves and their ideas without having to put them into words. These welcomed forms of authentic expression awaken a child’s imagination and creativity to help them discover who he or she is and how to engage their senses. They can also bring a sense of calm to their body, positively affecting their function, mood, cognition, and behaviour.
To participate in expressive art therapy, you do not need any prior experience with art or a ‘natural’ artistic ability. The process itself is one of exploration with no ‘wrongs’ and no ‘rights.’ The practice allows everyone to use creative activities in ways that support them best without judgment. We recognise the unique gifts & challenges of all children & can tailor the sessions to a group focus goal or individual needs.
